Usman Qadir relocates to Australia for a new cricketing journey, opening an exciting chapter after retiring from Pakistan cricket in October 2024. Now residing in New South Wales, he plays for the Hawkesbury Cricket Club in Sydney, determined to revive his career and seize opportunities in Australian cricket.
A Promising Start in Pakistan Cricket
Qadir’s cricketing journey began with a stellar debut in 2020 during a T20I series against Zimbabwe. He took eight wickets for just 60 runs in three matches, earning the Player of the Series award. Over the course of his career, Qadir represented Pakistan in one ODI and 25 T20Is, claiming a total of 32 wickets. At the height of his career, he became Pakistan’s leading leg-spinner, briefly replacing Shadab Khan in the T20I squad.
Despite these achievements, Qadir faced several challenges. Inconsistent performances and personal setbacks hindered his progress with the national team. Reflecting on his time in Pakistan cricket, he shared a heartfelt message: “It has been an immense honour to represent my country. I’m thankful for the support of my coaches and teammates who have been with me every step of the way.”
Early Ties to Australian Cricket
Before committing to Pakistan cricket, Qadir made his mark in Australia. He played for Western Australia and participated in the Big Bash League (BBL), representing teams such as the Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers. Additionally, he represented South Australia and was part of Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI.
His initial stint in Australia highlighted his talent, but it also came with challenges, including disciplinary issues. Despite these setbacks, Qadir’s skills as a leg-spinner stood out.
In 2019, a personal tragedy deeply affected him. After the passing of his father, Abdul Qadir, he decided to join Pakistan’s squad for a series in Australia. His father, a legendary leg-spinner, was a constant source of inspiration for Usman’s career.
A New Beginning in New South Wales
Now in New South Wales, Qadir is optimistic about his future in Australian cricket. His family is expected to join him soon as he settles into this new phase of life. Sharing his goals, he stated, “Cricket is my livelihood. I have come to Australia with future plans and am determined to explore good opportunities here.”
With his experience and determination, Qadir looks forward to carving out a fresh path in cricket. He hopes to make a lasting impact in his adopted country and leave behind a legacy inspired by his father’s greatness.
