Sindh’s Plan to Fight Malnutrition

Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah and WFP Country Director Coco Ushiyama discussed these challenges. They agreed that school meals can help children grow healthier and perform better in school. This initiative will start in the areas with the highest poverty rates.

How Free School Meals Can Reduce Dropout Rates

Many children in Sindh leave school to work because their families cannot afford food. The Sindh government free lunch initiative will encourage parents to send their children to school instead of work.

Minister Sardar Ali Shah stated that this program will reduce dropout rates and improve school attendance. Free meals will help children focus on their studies rather than worrying about food.

Nutritional Benefits for Learning and Health

Good nutrition is important for learning. Well-fed children can concentrate better, remember lessons, and participate actively in class.

Coco Ushiyama, the WFP Country Director, emphasized the importance of high-quality meals. Proper nutrition will also boost immunity and protect children from diseases. This program will support both education and overall well-being.

Launch and Future Plans

The Sindh government free lunch initiative will first launch in Karachi’s Malir district. Around 11,000 students will receive free hot meal lunch boxes. A baseline survey will be conducted to assess schools and communities.

If the program succeeds, it will expand to more areas across Sindh. A strict monitoring system will ensure that meals remain fresh, safe, and nutritious. Minister Sardar Ali Shah has also urged the WFP to set up a nutrition monitoring system to maintain high health standards.

The Sindh government free lunch initiative is a step toward a healthier and more educated future for schoolchildren.
