Pakistan’s Champions Trophy 2025 campaign ended in disappointment. Their final group-stage match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi was abandoned due to heavy rain. The game did not start, and both teams shared a point. With this result, Pakistan finished the tournament without a single win.
Pakistan’s Poor Performance in Champions Trophy 2025
Pakistan, the defending champions, failed to win any matches in their home tournament. Their campaign began with a 60-run defeat against New Zealand in Karachi. Then, they lost to India by six wickets in Dubai. These two back-to-back defeats ended their chances of reaching the semi-finals.
Pakistan’s assistant coach, Azhar Mahmood, expressed disappointment over the team’s performance. He pointed out injuries to key batters Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub as a major setback. Pakistan’s batting struggled, facing 308 dot balls in the two matches. Mahmood admitted the team felt pressure against India and needed to improve their adaptability and responsibility.
Bangladesh Also Ends Without a Win
Bangladesh also had a disappointing tournament. They lost to India in their first match and suffered another defeat against New Zealand. Like Pakistan, they had already been eliminated before this match.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed frustration over not getting a chance to finish the tournament on a high note. The match in Rawalpindi was an opportunity for both teams to restore some pride. However, continuous rain forced the umpires to call off the game at 3:30 PM local time. The ground remained covered, and multiple inspections did not change the decision.
Rain Disrupts Matches in Rawalpindi
This was the second match in Rawalpindi affected by rain. Earlier, the South Africa vs. Australia game was also abandoned without any play. The weather raised concerns about scheduling important matches at rain-prone venues.
Meanwhile, New Zealand and India advanced to the semi-finals from Group A. In Group B, South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan are still fighting for the remaining two semi-final spots. England is already eliminated.
Pakistan’s Champions Trophy 2025 campaign ended without a victory, leaving fans and experts questioning their performance.
