Pakistan vs New Zealand 1st T20I 2025 started with a nightmare for the visitors. Pakistan collapsed for just 91 runs at Hagley Oval. New Zealand easily chased the target, winning by nine wickets. Kyle Jamieson and Jacob Duffy led the bowling attack, leaving Pakistan with no answers.
Pakistan’s Batting Collapses Early
Pakistan chose to bat first but struggled from the start. Kyle Jamieson dismissed Mohammad Haris for a duck in the opening over. Hasan Nawaz followed soon, miscuing a shot off Jacob Duffy to deep third. Things got worse when Irfan Khan edged Jamieson’s sharp delivery outside off.
The trouble continued as Tim Robinson pulled off a stunning catch at backward point to remove Shadab Khan. By the fifth over, Pakistan had slumped to 11 for 4. The visitors were in deep trouble against New Zealand’s fast bowlers.
Agha Salman and Khushdil Shah Attempt to Rebuild
Agha Salman and Khushdil Shah tried to steady the innings. They had a few lucky escapes early on. Tim Seifert dropped Khushdil at point, while Daryl Mitchell missed an edge off Agha in the slips.
Pakistan’s batters took advantage of these missed chances. Agha played a reverse sweep for four in the tenth over. Khushdil then smashed a six over midwicket. In the next over, he hit Michael Bracewell for back-to-back sixes. It seemed like Pakistan was gaining some momentum, but it didn’t last long.
New Zealand Strikes Again
Agha attempted another reverse sweep but found the fielder at deep backward point. Jacob Duffy then returned to end Pakistan’s hopes. He forced Khushdil into an ill-timed shot, caught at backward point.
At 64 for 6, Pakistan’s innings was falling apart. Debutants Abdul Samad and Jahandad Khan tried to hit big shots but failed. Duffy cleaned up the lower order, finishing with outstanding figures of 4 for 14. Pakistan was bowled out for 91, their lowest T20I total in New Zealand.
New Zealand’s Chase Starts Strong
New Zealand needed just 92 runs to win. They started cautiously but quickly picked up the pace. Tim Seifert pulled Mohammad Ali through midwicket for a boundary. He then hit three more fours off Shaheen Afridi in the next over.
Seifert continued attacking. He stepped down the track and smashed another boundary off Ali. Finn Allen also joined in, launching Jahandad Khan for a six.
Pakistan introduced spin to slow things down. Abrar Ahmed dismissed Seifert with a carrom ball, caught behind by Haris. But by then, New Zealand had almost secured the win.
Allen remained aggressive, hitting another six and two fours. Tim Robinson added a six of his own. New Zealand chased the target easily, finishing at 92 for 1 in just 10.1 overs.
