Pakistan textile exports are likely to grow after the new US tariff policy. The US has placed high tariffs on goods from China and other countries. This move gives Pakistan a big chance to increase its textile exports. Shaikh Shafiq Jhok Wala, Chief Coordinator of the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA), shared this view. He spoke at the opening ceremony of the 29th Textile Asia 2025 at Expo Centre, Karachi.
He said that the high US tariffs on Chinese and other foreign products will create new demand in the American market. This change allows Pakistani businesses to expand their textile and garment exports to the US.
According to him, the global trade climate is still difficult. But it offers real chances for Pakistan to boost its industrial output and export numbers.
$35 Billion Export Target in Sight
He added that the government is trying to bring Chinese and Vietnamese companies to Pakistan. These companies are being invited to set up factories in special economic zones. The plan is to produce made-in-Pakistan garments with help from local investors.
He said that through this approach, international brands will export directly from Pakistan. If this happens, the country could increase its total exports to $35 billion. The textile sector will be a key part of this growth.
At the event, Project Director of Textile Asia, Muhammad Uzair Nizam, spoke about the visitors. He pointed out the large number of foreign delegates and national business leaders. He added that their participation proves that Pakistan holds real potential for textile investment and business expansion.
He also explained the aim of the trade fair. It is designed to increase the textile sector’s share in the national GDP. This will be done through innovation, development, and better trade methods.
Diplomats from countries like Turkey, China, and Germany were also present at the event.
Call for Action from Industrial Leaders
At the same event, Site Association of Industry (SAI) Chairman Ahmed Azeem Alvi made an appeal. He urged the government to act quickly and form a high-level committee to deal with the recent 29% tariff the US imposed on Pakistani goods.
He suggested that the committee should include key players from industry. It should have members from Karachi, Lahore, Sialkot, and Faisalabad. He also said the group must include both large companies and smaller businesses with export experience.
Their job will be to study the effects of the US tariffs. They will also come up with ways to improve Pakistan textile exports.
He also said more raw materials should be imported. This is important to meet the growing demand in local industries.
