LESCO Smart Meters: LESCO smart meters are now playing a big role in reducing electricity theft in Lahore and nearby cities. The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) is working hard to fix power problems. It has started major upgrades under its five-year business plan.

To stop power theft, LESCO is installing scanning meters and aerial bundled cables. These are being placed in areas with high theft, like Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, and Nankana Sahib.

According to LESCO CEO Engineer Shahid Haidar, the move has already started showing results.

LESCO is also putting insulated conductors in green zones. These zones include GOR, Cantt, Johar Town, and Gulberg. This step makes electricity safer and more stable. To support safety, LESCO has created a Health, Safety, and Environment Directorate. It will help prevent accidents and promote safety at work.

As part of this project, LESCO plans to install 535,000 smart meters. So far, 55,000 have already been installed. The project uses LESCO’s own money and support from the Asian Development Bank.

These smart meters are helping LESCO reduce its losses. The company has collected Rs4.23 billion from detection bills. It has also recovered Rs35.12 billion from private defaulters during its anti-theft drive.

To replace transformers faster, LESCO has built new workshops in Kasur and Sheikhupura. These workshops repair old transformers. They have saved almost Rs100 million each year. Faster repairs mean better service for customers.

LESCO is also working on its grid system. It has set up seven new 132kV grid stations. Sixteen old power transformers have also been upgraded. In addition, 116km of 132kV lines have been improved through reconductoring.

Over 4,000 transformers have been installed under the System Augmentation Plan. This helps distribute electricity better and avoid overload problems.

By June 2025, LESCO plans to finish replacing 132kV rail lines with HTLS conductors. This will reduce power load and keep voltage levels stable in Lahore.

To fight corruption, LESCO has punished 1,400 officers for bad behavior or poor work. This includes firing 97 officers from grades BPS-17 to BPS-19.

In another move, the Lahore administration is checking car wash stations. They want to make sure these places follow water recycling rules. Some stations were sealed, including one on Bedian Road. DC Syed Musa Raza said that water conservation is everyone’s responsibility and must be taken seriously. He also stressed the need to value and prevent its wastage.
