Khushdil Shah fined 50% of his match fees and handed three demerit points for forcefully colliding with Zakary Foulkes during Pakistan’s first T20I against New Zealand.
Khushdil Shah fined for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during Pakistan’s first T20I against New Zealand in Christchurch. The ICC penalized the all-rounder with a 50% deduction from his match fees and added three demerit points to his disciplinary record.
The incident took place in the eighth over of Pakistan’s innings. While running between the wickets, Khushdil collided forcefully with New Zealand bowler Zakary Foulkes. The ICC deemed the act reckless, negligent, and avoidable under Article 2.12 of its Code of Conduct. This rule addresses inappropriate physical contact between players, support personnel, umpires, match referees, or spectators.
Khushdil Accepts the Sanction
Umpires Wayne Knights, Sam Nogajski, Kim Cotton, and Chris Brown immediately reviewed the incident. After the match, Jeff Crowe, a member of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, confirmed the charges. Since Khushdil admitted the offense, he accepted the sanction without requiring a formal hearing.
Impact on Khushdil’s Disciplinary Record
The ICC added three demerit points to Khushdil’s record. This marks his first offense in 24 months. If a player accumulates four or more demerit points within this period, the ICC converts them into suspension points. Two suspension points result in a ban from either one Test, two ODIs, or two T20Is, depending on the player’s upcoming schedule.
Pakistan Struggles in Series Opener
Pakistan suffered a humiliating nine-wicket defeat in the opening match. Batting first, they collapsed for 91 runs in 18.4 overs. Seven batters failed to reach double digits, while the openers fell for ducks. Khushdil was the top scorer, contributing 32 runs off 30 balls.
New Zealand chased the target with ease, scoring 92-1 in just 10.1 overs. With this win, they secured a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series. The teams will now face off in the second T20I in Dunedin, where Pakistan will look to bounce back.
