WhatsApp Rolls Out Advanced Chat Privacy for Safer Group and Private Conversations

WhatsApp Rolls Out Advanced Chat Privacy Feature

WhatsApp has officially launched its new Advanced Chat Privacy feature to make both private and group conversations more secure. The update gives users more control over their chats by blocking chat exports, auto-downloads, and the use of messages by Meta AI.

Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, announced this update on April 23, 2025. The company explained that this feature builds on its end-to-end encryption. Now, it also helps stop people from saving or sharing content outside the chat.

When turned on, Advanced Chat Privacy prevents others from exporting entire chats. It also stops media files from auto-downloading to devices and keeps Meta AI from accessing messages. This means sensitive content is more protected and less likely to leak.

WhatsApp shared that the feature is useful in group chats, especially when users don’t know each other well. For example, it can help when people discuss health problems in support groups or organize something important in their community. Everyone in the chat gets more peace of mind knowing their conversations stay private.

To activate Advanced Chat Privacy, users can simply open a chat, tap on the chat name, and select the option from the menu. It works for both one-on-one and group chats. Once enabled, WhatsApp will also send a message inside the chat to inform all participants about the change. This makes everything transparent and avoids confusion.

Users on both Android and iOS can access the feature by updating their WhatsApp to the latest version. However, it may take a few weeks to roll out to everyone. So if it’s not showing up yet, check back later.

According to WhatsApp, this is just the beginning. More updates will follow to improve privacy further. For now, while screenshots and message forwarding still work, the focus remains on keeping entire conversations more secure.
