USA Sets New Record for Lowest Defended Total in One Day International History
The lowest defended total One Day International record now belongs to the United States after their stunning victory against Oman. USA successfully defended 122 runs, breaking India’s 40-year-old record for the lowest total defended in a full men’s ODI.
USA Defends 122 Runs Against Oman
On Tuesday in Al Amerat, USA scored 122 runs and bowled out Oman for just 65. This remarkable win came in a spin-dominated match where no pace bowler bowled a single delivery. The previous record belonged to India, who defended 125 runs against Pakistan in 1985.
First One Day International Without a Single Pace Delivery
This match made history as the first-ever completed One Day International where every ball was bowled by spinners. Out of 20 wickets, 19 fell to spin, matching the 2011 record set in a Bangladesh vs Pakistan match. The only other dismissal was a run-out.
Nosthush Kenjige Leads USA’s Bowling Attack
Left-arm spinner Nosthush Kenjige played a crucial role in USA’s victory. He took 5 wickets for just 11 runs in 7.3 overs. His brilliant spell dismantled Oman’s batting lineup, securing USA’s place in ONE DAY INTERNATIONAL cricket history.
Breaking a 40-Year-Old Record
India held the lowest defended total One Day International record for four decades before USA’s historic achievement. India’s record came when they defended 125 runs against Pakistan in Sharjah back in 1985. USA’s 57-run victory now replaces that milestone.
A Historic Day for USA Cricket
This victory marks a huge moment for USA cricket. Defending such a low total shows the strength of their spin attack and their growing potential in international cricket.
The lowest defended total One Day International record now belongs to USA, proving that strong bowling can win matches, even with a low score.
