US Suspends Military Aid to Ukraine
Trump halts Ukraine aid, blocking billions in weapons, vehicles, and ammunition shipments. A White House official confirmed the decision, which affects previously approved assistance. The pause comes as Trump pushes Ukraine to negotiate peace with Vladimir Putin.
Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that he was “gambling with” a potential world war. He urged Zelenskyy to return when he is ready for peace.
The Pause Is Not Permanent
A senior official told Fox News that the decision “is not permanent termination of aid, it’s a pause.” Bloomberg reported that all military shipments still in transit would be held back.
Trump ordered Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to implement the suspension after meeting with top officials. The meeting included Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
Billions in Aid Now on Hold
Since Russia’s invasion nearly three years ago, the US has approved $175 billion in total aid for Ukraine. This includes military aid, budgetary support, and USAID funds.
Of this amount, $31.7 billion in weapons was sent through presidential drawdown authority (PDA). Most of these supplies have already reached Ukraine. However, Trump has not approved any new aid since taking office. A new congressional package also seems unlikely.
White House Considers Lifting Russian Sanctions
The White House is reviewing sanctions on Russia as part of a plan to restore diplomatic and economic ties. Trump has instructed the State and Treasury Departments to draft a list of sanctions that could be lifted.
Meanwhile, Trump criticized Zelenskyy for saying that the war’s end could be “very, very far away.” He warned that unless Ukraine accepts peace on US terms, its leadership “won’t be around very long.”
What Comes Next?
Trump halts Ukraine aid, marking a major shift in US foreign policy. With sanctions under review and military support on hold, Ukraine faces pressure to negotiate with Russia. The world now waits to see how Ukraine and its allies respond.
