Tamim Iqbal Leaves Field After Chest Pain

The match against Shinepukur Cricket Club started normally. Tamim participated in the toss and fielded for an over. Soon after, he felt discomfort in his chest and decided to leave.

He went to KPJ Specialised Hospital and Nursing Home, located near the stadium, for a checkup. Doctors suggested further evaluation, but he wanted to return to the match. As he made his way back, his condition worsened.

A family member arranged an air ambulance to transport him to Dhaka. But before he could leave, he collapsed at the stadium. The Mohammedan team physio performed CPR on him immediately.

Emergency Surgery After Critical Condition

Tamim arrived at the hospital in serious condition. Tests revealed a blocked artery. Cardiologist Dr. Moniruzzaman Maruf performed emergency angioplasty to restore blood flow.

Hospital officials confirmed that Tamim Iqbal visited twice that day. The first time, he walked in for a checkup after feeling unwell. The second time, he was rushed in after suffering a heart attack.

Dr. Rajib Hasan from KPJ Hospital shared an update.

“He returned to us in a critical condition. We can call it a heart attack, and we subsequently did an angiogram and angioplasty to remove the blockage. The medical procedure has gone smoothly. He is currently under observation.”

Tamim Iqbal’s Condition Improves

BCB’s chief physician, Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, confirmed that he regained consciousness after surgery.

“His vital signs are improving so we also hope that his overall health will also get better in the next 24 hours. The hospital has briefed you that they have put a ring in one of his arteries. The other arteries are healthy.”

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) responded quickly. They canceled their scheduled board meeting upon hearing the news. BCB President Faruque Ahmed, alongside chief executive Nizamuddin Ahmed and director Akram Khan, rushed to the hospital.

“We are very thankful to all the medics and specialists for their swift actions in this critical situation. The outpouring of concern for Tamim reflects how much he is loved and appreciated by the nation,” said the BCB president. “The board is committed to providing every support and assistance to ensure Tamim’s swift recovery,” he further added.

Support from Teammates, Fans, and Officials

Tamim Iqbal’s teammates, including Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Taijul Islam, visited him in the hospital. Fans gathered outside, and media personnel waited for updates.

The cricket community continues to pray for his recovery. Although he retired from international cricket in January, he remains active in domestic leagues.

Just last month, he led Fortune Barishal to their second consecutive Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title. In the current DPL season, he has already scored two centuries while leading Mohammedan Sporting Club to six wins in eight matches.

His sudden hospitalization has shocked the cricket world. Fans and officials now hope for his quick recovery.
