The tallest towers race in the Middle East is now moving from Dubai to Saudi Arabia. For years, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa held the record as the tallest building in the world at 828 metres. Now, Saudi Arabia is planning mega-projects that will reshape skylines and challenge Dubai’s crown.
Rise Tower in Riyadh
Riyadh is preparing for one of the most ambitious skyscrapers ever imagined. Known as the Rise Tower, this building is still in the design phase but has already captured worldwide attention. If plans succeed, the tower will reach 2,000 metres. That is more than double the Burj Khalifa.
The project is expected to feature close to 700 floors. It will include hotels, restaurants, offices, and observation platforms. Rise Tower will also stand as the centrepiece of the futuristic North Pole development, a city-scale project that aims to transform Riyadh’s urban landscape.
Jeddah Tower Resumes Construction
In Jeddah, another contender is making progress. The Jeddah Tower was delayed for years, but construction has now resumed. Once complete, it is expected to rise one kilometre high, making it the first building in the world to cross that mark.
Developers have revealed plans for luxury apartments, business centres, and a world-class hotel. The tower will also host an observation deck that overlooks the Red Sea. With more than 60 floors already built, the project is expected to be completed in the coming years.
Global Investment and Expertise
Both Saudi towers are supported by international investments and leading architectural firms. This blend of funding and expertise increases the chance of success. More importantly, it shows the country’s ambition to play a leading role in future city design.
Impact on the Middle East Skyline
The tallest towers race is no longer just about setting records. It is also about reimagining cities. These projects aim to attract tourism, business, and global attention. Dubai has enjoyed years of global fame because of the Burj Khalifa. However, Saudi Arabia is positioning itself as the next hub for iconic architecture.
The Future of Skyscrapers
While the Burj Khalifa still stands as a symbol of engineering excellence, its reign may not last. The Saudi projects signal a shift in where the world looks for record-breaking skylines. The race is on, and the results will change how the world sees Middle Eastern cities.
