Sarfaraz Ahmed Returns to Quetta Gladiators as Team Director

Sarfaraz Ahmed returns

A New Role for a Familiar Face

Sarfaraz Ahmed returns to Quetta Gladiators as Team Director ahead of PSL 10, bringing leadership and experience to the franchise. This move comes after he went unpicked in the PSL 10 draft, marking a significant shift in his career. The announcement was made by franchise owner Nadeem Omar during a sponsor signing ceremony.

An Unexpected Draft Snub

Sarfaraz Ahmed returns to Quetta in a new role after a surprising draft event. The former Pakistan captain had been with the Gladiators since PSL’s first season in 2016. However, Quetta released him before the draft, and no team selected him. Many believed this was the end of his PSL journey.

Initially, reports suggested he might replace Shane Watson as head coach after the Australian withdrew due to scheduling conflicts. However, the team decided to give him a leadership role off the field instead.

Why This Move Matters?

Franchise owner Nadeem Omar believes Sarfaraz’s leadership will still play a key role in the team’s success.

“Sarfaraz led Quetta Gladiators really well as a captain, and I am hopeful he will do the same as Team Director,” Omar said.

This decision means Sarfaraz will handle team strategy, planning, and leadership in a new way. He understands the Gladiators’ culture and knows how to motivate players. His presence will still influence the team, even if he is not playing.

A Strong Legacy with Quetta Gladiators

Sarfaraz Ahmed returns to the Gladiators with a rich history behind him. He led Quetta to its first and only PSL title in 2019. His personal stats also reflect his impact—1525 runs in 86 matches with an average of 29.32 and seven half-centuries.

However, his role started changing in 2023 when Rilee Rossouw replaced him as captain. Many thought his time with Quetta had ended, but the franchise still values his experience and leadership.

What’s Next for Sarfaraz?

Sarfaraz may not play in PSL 10, but his influence remains. With PSL 10 starting on April 11, he will work closely with head coach Moin Khan to develop match strategies. His deep knowledge of the PSL will help shape the team’s performance.

Fans who admired his leadership on the field will now see him guiding the team from the dugout. His return in this new role proves that Quetta Gladiators still see him as an essential part of their journey.
