The runway engineering award given to Quetta International Airport is a proud moment for Pakistan. The newly reconstructed runway won the prestigious FIDIC Asia-Pacific Engineering Excellence Award. The award ceremony took place in Islamabad, attended by engineers and officials from across the region.
This global recognition honors the Pakistan Airports Authority and its consultants. It celebrates their excellent planning, strong engineering skills, and strict safety focus. Such achievements push Pakistan’s aviation standards higher and show the value of investing in modern infrastructure.
PKR 5 Billion Project Completed Without Closure
The runway reconstruction cost around PKR 5 billion. Yet, the airport stayed open during construction. This smart approach ensured air traffic continued without major delays. Airlines operated smoothly, and passengers didn’t face much trouble.
This shows excellent planning and coordination. The project became a success story due to teamwork and innovation.
Among Asia-Pacific’s Strongest Runways
According to engineers, the new runway is one of the longest and strongest in the Asia-Pacific region. It was built using the latest materials. These help the runway stay strong under different weather conditions and heavy use.
The design allows it to support all types of aircraft, including large jets. That makes it a major step forward for the airport’s growth.
A Symbol of Modern Aviation
The first landing on this new runway happened on May 31, 2023. It was PIA Flight PK-3250 from Islamabad. Since then, the runway has made flights safer and more efficient.
It helps manage the rising number of flights in Quetta and the larger Balochistan region. The improvement supports economic and regional growth.
Recognition of Local Talent
This award also recognizes Pakistan’s engineering talent. It proves local teams can deliver global-standard projects. Aviation experts believe this success will guide future airport projects in Pakistan.
With continued efforts, Pakistan’s transport systems will keep improving. Quetta’s runway now serves as a shining example for others to follow.
