PMD Predicts Rain and Thunderstorms in Karachi

Karachi weather forecast

According to the latest Karachi weather forecast, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain and thunderstorms in the city starting Monday evening, May 5. This change in weather comes as a westerly system moves into the southern region of Pakistan.

The PMD said the stormy weather is likely to continue until May 10. During this time, residents can expect strong winds, thunder, lightning, and possibly hailstorms. The weather authority also warned about rising humidity levels. These conditions will make the temperature feel hotter than the actual reading. Karachi’s maximum temperature may reach up to 37°C.

Rain is not limited to Karachi. The PMD also expects it in other Sindh districts. These include Sanghar, Umarkot, Matiari, Mithi, Thatta, Sukkur, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Larkana, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Khairpur. Some areas might get heavy rain or hail.

Most parts of Sindh will stay hot and dry on Tuesday. But dust storms and rain may hit Umarkot, Tharparkar, and Mirpurkhas. Rain is also expected in parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, northeastern Balochistan, and Kashmir.

Earlier, the PMD shared that April was one of the driest and hottest in Pakistan’s recent history. The average temperature stood at 27.91°C, which is 3.37°C higher than normal. Daytime temperatures were even more alarming. The average daytime high reached 36.40°C, which is 4.66°C above the usual. Rainfall in April was 59% lower than the average, making it one of the driest April in 65 years.

These changes are a clear sign of shifting climate patterns. They affect crops, water supply, and health. In Karachi, the heat has been intense from 11am to 4pm. Health officials urge people to stay indoors during these hours. The Karachi weather forecast for this week warns of more extreme heat followed by rain.
