Pakistan Navy Hovercraft capability has been upgraded with the addition of three refurbished vessels from the United Kingdom. This transfer of hovercraft will improve Pakistan’s maritime security and disaster relief response. The agreement was confirmed by Defense Equipment & Support (DE&S), a UK government body.
A Strategic Military Transfer
The hovercraft were earlier used by the Royal Marines. They were part of 539 Assault Squadron and retired from service in 2021. Now, they have been restored and handed over to the Pakistan Navy. The move is part of the UK’s initiative to share surplus military tools with partner countries.
Craft Designed for Versatility
These Landing Craft Air Cushion (Light), also known as LCAC(L), are unique. They can move over land and water. This makes them useful in many situations, especially in coastal areas like those in Pakistan. The Navy will use them for patrols, support missions, quick responses, and disaster relief.
Support from British Industry
The vessels were serviced by Griffon Marine Support, a company in Southampton. Griffon Marine also signed a deal to continue helping the Pakistan Navy with maintenance and support. This long-term cooperation will ensure the hovercraft remain in excellent condition.

Strengthening Defence Ties
Commodore Richard Whalley from DE&S said the transfer shows strong ties between the UK and Pakistan. It helps Pakistan while also supporting global security. At the same time, it reduces costs for the UK defence system.
Future Cooperation in Focus
A spokesperson from the Pakistan Navy shared that the deal is part of a bigger partnership. Both countries continue working together through training, joint missions, and defence projects. These hovercraft will help in peace missions, relief work, and fast naval operations.
