Pakistan calls Nowruz a time of ‘renewal, togetherness’ at New York ceremony

Nowruz Festival Celebration marks the arrival of spring. Pakistan has emphasized its significance, calling it a time of renewal, self-reflection, and gratitude.
Pakistan’s Message on Nowruz
Ambassador Munir Akram spoke at a special UN ceremony in New York. He highlighted that Nowruz carries forward traditions of unity, peace, and cultural richness. The event was co-hosted by Pakistan and several other countries, including Iran, Turkey, and Afghanistan.
UN’s Recognition of Nowruz
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sent a video message. He stated that Nowruz inspires unity, peace, and harmony with nature. He emphasized that each new year is a fresh start and a chance to build a better world.
Nowruz in Pakistan’s Culture
Ambassador Akram highlighted Nowruz’s deep roots in Pakistan. From Gilgit-Baltistan to Balochistan and the Indus Valley, Baharan represents perseverance and heritage. The festival has been part of the region’s history for thousands of years.
Connection Between Nowruz and Ramzan
This year, Nowruz coincides with Ramzan. Ambassador Akram compared fasting to spring, saying both purify and bring new beginnings. He stressed that hardships are temporary, and every challenge leads to renewal.
Solidarity and Hope
Ambassador Akram also spoke about global struggles. He expressed solidarity with those suffering worldwide. He reminded the audience that true renewal comes from standing for justice and fostering peace.
Nowruz: A Global Festival
An estimated 300 million people celebrate Nowruz worldwide. It is recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The festival continues to bring people together across different cultures and regions.
