Pakistan Seeks Germany’s Support for Climate Action

Pakistan climate action efforts received a boost as officials sought Germany’s assistance in clean energy and sustainability. The discussions focused on technical expertise, policy reforms, and green economy transition.
Strengthening Climate Cooperation
Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s coordinator for climate change, urged Germany to support Pakistan climate action strategies. She highlighted the need for technical expertise to accelerate Pakistan’s shift to clean energy.
At a meeting with Germany’s Federal Economic Cooperation Department and the German Development Department (BMZ), Alam emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation. She stressed that climate change and sustainability are crucial for Pakistan’s economic and environmental stability.
Addressing Climate Challenges
The meeting discussed Pakistan’s environmental issues, including floods, droughts, and rising temperatures. Alam reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the National Climate Change Policy and Pakistan Climate Change Act. She also emphasized Pakistan’s pledge to meet its Paris Agreement goals.
Christian Amari, representing BMZ, assured Germany’s support for Pakistan’s climate resilience efforts. She emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and financial assistance. She stated, “Integrating climate change adaptation into national development policies is paramount. We must ensure the green economy transition is inclusive and resilient.”
Focusing on Youth and Climate Education
Parliamentary Secretary Ahmed Atteeq Anwar also attended the meeting and stressed the importance of youth engagement. He proposed adding climate education to school curriculums and promoting youth-led environmental projects.
He encouraged tree-planting drives and community cleanup programs, stating, “Media and social platforms play a crucial role in spreading awareness and inspiring youth to take climate action.”
A Shared Commitment to Sustainability
The meeting ended with both sides reaffirming their dedication to Pakistan’s climate action efforts. Pakistan and Germany pledged to work together to enhance sustainability, strengthen resilience, and promote clean energy solutions.
