Supreme Court Upholds Zahir Jaffer’s Death Sentence in Noor Mukadam Murder Case

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has upheld the death sentence given to Zahir Jaffer in the Noor Mukadam murder Case. On Tuesday, the court dismissed Zahir’s appeal, putting an end to his final legal option.
A three-member bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, gave this ruling. The other two judges on the bench were Justice Naeem Afghan and Justice Athar Minallah. This final verdict confirmed the decisions of both the trial court and the Islamabad High Court.
Zahir Jaffer had filed an appeal after the Islamabad High Court upheld his death sentence in March 2022. He asked the Supreme Court to overturn the verdict. However, the top court refused to do so.
During the hearing, Zahir’s lawyer argued that the case did not meet the legal requirements for a death sentence. He claimed there was not enough evidence. But the court disagreed.
Justice Athar Minallah stated that the court could not ignore the facts. He added that Zahir had committed a brutal crime and deserved full punishment. Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa also said the case had enough evidence, and the lower courts had made the right decision.
In July 2021, Zahir Jaffer murdered Noor Mukadam, a 27-year-old woman and daughter of former ambassador Shaukat Mukadam. The incident took place in Zahir’s house in Islamabad. The case shocked the nation. It led to public anger and demands for justice.
Police arrested Zahir at the crime scene. They later confirmed he had tortured Noor before killing her. The murder involved physical assault and the use of a sharp weapon.
In February 2022, the trial court sentenced Zahir to death. It also punished others involved in the case. Two domestic staff members, Iftikhar and Jan Muhammad, were given 10 years in prison each. They were found guilty of helping Zahir.
Zahir’s parents, Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Adamjee, were also arrested. They faced charges of trying to cover up the crime. However, they were later acquitted by the court.
The Noor Mukadam murder Case has become one of the most talked-about legal battles in Pakistan. It sparked debates about women’s safety and justice in the country. The verdict has been seen as a key moment in Pakistan’s legal system.
The Supreme Court’s decision ends a long legal process. It also brings some closure to Noor’s family, who have been fighting for justice for nearly four years.
