The Nawaz Sharif Flyover has officially opened to the public in Rawalpindi. This early opening took place even before its planned inauguration by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Located at Khawaja Corporation Chowk on Adiala Road, this flyover is now helping ease traffic congestion.
Major Urban Project Completed
The flyover is part of a bigger urban uplift project in Rawalpindi. The total cost of this initiative is Rs. 4.38 billion. It includes the completed flyover, two traffic underpasses, and one pedestrian underpass on Mall Road. While the flyover is now open, the underpasses are still closed. They will be made public after a visit from the Chief Minister.
Timely Action by Authorities
Although the official ceremony is still pending, the Punjab Communication and Works Department has completed all construction work. Due to heavy traffic pressure, the flyover was opened earlier than expected. This step was taken to improve daily travel for commuters.
Future Road Expansion Plans
Authorities are now planning the next stage of road development. New underpasses are expected at Qasim Market, Race Course, and Chairing Cross. These will be built along Peshawar Road. A large plan for two flyovers and three underpasses at Kachehri Chowk is also under review. However, the launch date has not been confirmed yet.
A Boost for Urban Connectivity
This flyover is a strong sign of Punjab’s dedication to better infrastructure. When all projects are completed, people in Rawalpindi will benefit from smoother travel and less traffic. This is just the beginning of many upcoming changes in the city.
