The Sindh Education Department has announced the closure of schools and colleges located near Shahrah-e-Faisal and Habib Ibrahim Rahmatullah Road for four days, from November 19 to 22. The decision has been made to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain security during the 12th International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024.
A notification issued by the department stated, “Therefore, you are directed to close your school with effect from 19th to 22nd November 2024 in order to provide safe and foolproof passage to such high-ups.”
Traffic Disruptions Expected
Traffic diversions will be in place around the Karachi Expo Centre, where IDEAS 2024 is being held. Roads from Hassan Square to National Stadium, including Sir Shah Muhammad Suleman Road, will remain closed from 7 AM to 7 PM. Heavy traffic will not be allowed near the Expo Centre, while small vehicles will have limited access.
The Karachi Traffic Police shared that “the road leading from Dalmia Road Stadium Signal to Hassan Square from the right side will be closed for traffic,” and other routes around Nipa and University Road will also remain inaccessible.
IDEAS 2024: A Global Event
IDEAS 2024 is one of the region’s largest defence exhibitions, showcasing advanced equipment and technologies from Pakistan and global manufacturers. Organized by the Defence Export Promotion Organisation (DEPO) under the Ministry of Defence, the event will feature a display of weapons systems, seminars on defence topics, and networking opportunities for international delegates.
High-profile attendees, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, defence ministers, policymakers, and diplomats, are expected at the event.
Focus on Defence Production
The event aims to highlight Pakistan’s defence production capabilities and strengthen international partnerships. It aligns with the Special Investment Facilitation Council's (SIFC) priority sectors and promotes opportunities for global collaboration.
The last IDEAS exhibition, held in 2022, featured 532 companies from 38 countries. Delegations from 57 countries, including defence ministers and armed forces chiefs, participated.
Public Impact and Cooperation
Residents near Shahrah-e-Faisal and Habib Ibrahim Rahmatullah Road are advised to plan ahead as school closures and traffic restrictions may cause inconvenience. The authorities have urged citizens to follow traffic plans and cooperate during the event to ensure its success.
The exhibition is expected to bring long-term benefits for Pakistan’s defence industry while showcasing the country’s technological advancements on a global stage.
