The Karachi heatwave alert is in effect as temperatures rise above 40°C and the usual sea breeze stops blowing. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warns that the heat will get worse over the next two days, making the weather tough for the city’s residents.
Hot winds from the west and southeast will blow at speeds up to 40 kilometres per hour today and tomorrow. These dry, hot winds will push the daytime temperature to between 39°C and 41°C. Without the cooling sea breeze, the heat feels much stronger. This will cause heatwave-like conditions across Karachi.
Humidity has also gone up to around 60 to 68 percent. This makes the air feel hotter than the actual temperature. Sometimes, it may feel like it is 42°C or more. The PMD advises everyone to drink plenty of water and avoid the sun during peak hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Karachi is usually one of the hottest cities in Pakistan during May. But this year, the heatwave is worse because of the dry winds and no sea breeze. The PMD has issued a heatstroke warning. People should wear light clothes and stay indoors when possible to stay safe.
Across Pakistan, the weather is different. Most parts of Sindh and Balochistan are hot and dry. Meanwhile, areas like Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa expect rain and thunderstorms today. This will give some relief from the heat in those areas.
However, Karachi will stay hot and dry. The PMD says no rain will fall in the city soon, and the skies will stay clear. Winds will blow strongly, but without the sea breeze, it won’t cool the city down.
To sum up, the Karachi heatwave alert remains in place. Temperatures will stay over 40°C for the next few days. Citizens must take care and follow health advice to avoid heat exhaustion or heatstroke. The PMD will keep updating the public as the heatwave continues.
On Thursday, Karachi might see stronger winds. Still, these winds won’t reduce the heat. The heatwave-like weather will stay for now. This Karachi heatwave alert warns everyone to stay prepared and cautious during this tough weather.
