The Kaaba Kiswah raised three meters above the ground is part of a yearly tradition before Hajj. This sacred cloth is lifted to protect it during the time when millions of pilgrims arrive in Makkah. The raised position will stay until the 15th of Dhul-Hijjah.
Why the Kiswah Is Raised
Each year, the covering of the Kaaba is lifted before Hajj begins. The main reason is to prevent damage to the Kiswah. Many pilgrims try to touch or hold the cloth. Some even attempt to cut small pieces as souvenirs.
Although this is done out of love, it can harm the holy fabric. By raising the Kiswah, authorities ensure its protection and keep the sacred site respected.
A Step Toward Preservation
This step is not new. It has been a long-standing tradition in Islamic history. The practice shows care and responsibility. While pilgrims still feel close to the Kaaba, the Kiswah remains safe from wear and tear.
Timing and Duration of the Raising
The Kiswah will stay lifted until 15th Dhul-Hijjah, after the main Hajj rituals are complete. After this, the cloth will be lowered back to its original position.
Respecting the Sanctity of the Kaaba
The Kaaba is the most sacred site in Islam. It is the direction of prayer for all Muslims. Maintaining its dignity is a duty. Therefore, this action helps preserve that sanctity.
Pilgrims are encouraged to show love with care. Hajj is a spiritual journey. So respecting holy symbols is part of that journey.
A Tradition That Continues
This act is a reminder of how traditions can adapt for protection. It shows how Islam values preservation, even as crowds grow.
