Islamabad hailstorm hits the city after several days of extreme heat. On Wednesday afternoon, residents were surprised as large hailstones suddenly began falling. Many cars were damaged. Windscreens cracked. Streets were covered in ice.
Sudden Weather Shift Shocks City
The storm arrived without much warning. Though some rain was expected, no one thought hail would fall this hard. People rushed to protect themselves and their cars. Traffic stopped on major roads.
Drivers parked under trees or near buildings to avoid damage. Still, many vehicles were hit.
Social Media Shows the Damage
Within minutes, social media was full of videos and photos. Car windows shattered. Roads looked white from the heavy hail. People posted clips from Margalla Road and Blue Area showing dented vehicles and broken glass.
One video showed a row of cars parked with broken windshields. The storm lasted only a short time, but the damage was heavy.
Residents Share Their Experience
“This is the worst hailstorm I’ve seen in years,” said Aadil Shadman, a commuter stuck near Margalla Road. “My Suzuki’s windscreen broke even though I stopped quickly,” he added.
Others shared similar stories. Some tried covering their cars with mats and cloths. But the hailstones were too large.
Weather Office Issues Update
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had only predicted light rain. Now they are checking the situation. An update has been shared, warning that more unstable weather may follow.
Residents are advised to stay alert and avoid parking in open areas during the next few days.
Relief from Heat Comes at a Cost
The hailstorm brought cool air after many days of heat. But the relief came with problems. Repair shops in the city are already reporting a rise in bookings.
Many people now face extra costs for replacing glass and fixing dents.
