Fakhar Zaman Ruled Out Due to Injury

Fakhar Zaman sustained the injury during Pakistan’s opening match against New Zealand in Karachi. While fielding in the first over, he fell awkwardly and showed signs of discomfort. He left the field for medical assessment and later tried to return, but his condition did not improve.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that Fakhar would not travel with the team to Dubai. The left-handed batter expressed his disappointment on Instagram. He assured fans that while the injury had ruled him out, he was hopeful for a strong comeback.

Imam-ul-Haq Joins Squad as Replacement

With Fakhar Zaman ruled out, Imam-ul-Haq replaces Fakhar Zaman in Pakistan’s squad. The left-handed batter, known for his consistency in ODIs, joins the team just in time for the high-stakes match against India. The ICC’s Event Technical Committee approved the replacement, making it official.

Imam last played for Pakistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He has scored 3,138 runs in 72 ODIs at an average of 48.27, with nine centuries and 20 half-centuries. In a recent warm-up match against South Africa, he impressed with a solid 98 runs off 94 balls.

Concerns Over Pakistan’s Batting Lineup

The replacement of Fakhar with Imam raises concerns about Pakistan’s batting approach. Cricket experts believe Imam’s batting style is different from Fakhar’s aggressive play. Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez praised Imam’s ability but highlighted the need for a better strike rate.

Pakistan’s batting order has struggled in the tournament. The team lost to New Zealand by 60 runs in their opening match, failing to chase a 321-run target. Fakhar, who batted at No. 4 due to his injury, managed only 24 runs off 41 balls.

With India refusing to travel to Pakistan, the ICC adopted a two-way hybrid model. All India-related matches were moved to Dubai. Pakistan will face India on February 23 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. After that, they will return home to play Bangladesh in Rawalpindi on February 27.
