Heavy rain alert has been issued across Pakistan. According to the Met Office, moist currents are entering the upper and central areas. These currents are likely to grow stronger in the coming days. In addition, a westerly wave is approaching and will become more active by June 26.
Rain Forecast for Provinces
First, the rain will begin in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan on June 24. Places like Neelum, Muzaffarabad, Hunza, and Skardu may receive heavy rainfall. By June 25, Punjab and Islamabad will also experience strong showers, including cities such as Lahore, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi.
Then from June 25 to July 1, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will likely face scattered heavy rain. Areas such as Swat, Chitral, and Peshawar are included. Meanwhile, Balochistan and Sindh can expect rain from June 25 to 28. Cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, and Khuzdar should prepare for wind and thunderstorms.
Urban Flooding and Flash Floods
Due to continuous rain, many areas may experience flash flooding. Especially from June 26 onward, hilly regions like Swat, Murree, and Kohistan are at higher risk. Meanwhile, low-lying parts of Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar may face urban flooding.
Therefore, local authorities and residents must stay alert. Also, weak structures such as rooftops, billboards, and solar panels could be damaged during storms.
Possible Landslides in Northern Areas
In hilly and mountain areas, landslides may occur due to soil loosening. This could lead to road blockages and travel delays. Particularly, Murree, Galliyat, and Gilgit-Baltistan are considered high-risk zones.
Because of these conditions, it is better for tourists to delay their trips. Moreover, transport authorities should prepare emergency responses in advance.
