The federal government has approved the construction of new international airports in Sukkur and Muzaffarabad. This step will improve travel for overseas Pakistanis and help local people as well.
The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) is now preparing for both projects. A special officer committee is working on land acquisition. At the same time, the Works and Development Department has started early development work.
These new international airports will cost billions of rupees. The government plans to finish both within five years. Experts and consultants will be hired to make sure the work is done properly and on time.
The Sukkur International Airport will serve Upper Sindh. It will reduce traffic on other airports nearby and support local business. The Muzaffarabad International Airport will improve travel to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). This has been a long-time request from overseas Pakistanis.
A group of British MPs with Kashmiri roots wrote a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. They asked for an airport in AJK. Because of this, the government also ordered a study for a possible third airport in Mirpur. This could help more members of the Kashmiri community living abroad.
In Islamabad, the PAA has already posted ads asking consultancy firms to join the bidding process for the Muzaffarabad airport project.
These new international airports are part of a larger plan by the federal government. The plan is being led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Officials say the airports will improve air links and also help with tourism and business.
At the same time, the government is holding the first Overseas Pakistanis Convention in Islamabad. The event is to honor the role of overseas Pakistanis in the country’s economy. All participants are being treated as state guests. Different departments have set up help desks for them.
In a video message, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain said that the government remains committed to solving the problems faced by Pakistanis living abroad. He also asked guests to share their feedback and ideas.
Meanwhile, Minister of State Awn Chaudhry appreciated the efforts of overseas Pakistanis. He said their hearts beat for Pakistan.
