A joint study by Pakistan and China is bringing new hope to flower farmers. Researchers from Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU) and Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (YAAS) have tested advanced methods to grow roses and marigolds. These flowers are widely used in Pakistan for celebrations and cultural events.
This one-year project, conducted in Yunnan, China, focused on fighting plant diseases and pests. Scientists have found faster and cheaper ways to cultivate strong flower varieties. They have also introduced a new method to detect harmful fungi and viruses affecting these flowers.
New Disease-Resistant Flower Varieties
Pakistani and Chinese researchers have developed new flower varieties that are more resistant to diseases. These plants can thrive in harsh weather conditions. Unlike older techniques, these varieties do not need complex tissue culture processes.
Better Farming Techniques for Higher Yields
The study’s findings could help increase flower production. The new methods may also reduce virus-related losses. Dr. Niaz Ali, a lecturer at SBBU, believes that these innovations could also benefit other crops, such as cotton, wheat, and rice.
Detecting and Controlling Plant Diseases
Researchers have developed an advanced technique to identify and manage common plant diseases. This method helps detect harmful fungi and viruses early. By controlling these threats, farmers can grow healthier and stronger plants.
Future Plans for Flower Farming in Pakistan
The success of this project has encouraged further research. Scientists now plan to introduce more high-yielding flower varieties. They also aim to explore the use of flowers in oils and medicines. These efforts could create new opportunities for farmers and businesses in Pakistan.
