A tragic incident has claimed the lives of five Pakistani Umrah pilgrims killed in a bus crash in Saudi Arabia. The crash happened while the bus was traveling from Al-Badr to Madinah. It collided with a trailer on the road. Three women and two elderly men died in the incident. Many others were injured. They are being treated at different hospitals in Madinah.
All the victims were from the Bahawalnagar district in Punjab. Rukhsana Bibi and Amina Bibi were from village 228/9-R, Fort Abbas. The third woman was from village 201 Murad. The elderly men came from village 39/3-R and Dahranwala town. The group was on their way to perform Umrah, a holy pilgrimage to Madinah.
The accident happened while they were returning from Badr, a historic Islamic site. A relative of the victims shared the grief, saying, “[My] sister and two cousins died in a bus accident while on their way to Madina from Badr.” The crash has deeply hurt their families and shocked their community.
Rescue teams reached the spot quickly. They moved the injured to hospitals for urgent care. The injured include women, children, and elderly people. Hospital officials confirmed that four injured people, including two women, are at the Saudi-German Hospital. Three others, including two more women, are being treated at King Fahd Hospital. One woman is admitted to King Salman Hospital. The bodies of the deceased were also shifted to these hospitals for documentation.
Khalid Majeed, Pakistan’s Consul General in Saudi Arabia, shared his sadness about the loss. He said that the Pakistan Consulate’s team is actively assisting the injured and is also in contact with the Umrah sponsoring company concerned. The consulate also issued the required No Objection Certificates (NOCs). This allowed the burial of three pilgrims in Saudi Arabia, according to their families’ wishes.
A family member confirmed the burial plans, saying that the deceased pilgrims will be buried in Saudi Arabia. The families decided this so their loved ones could be laid to rest in the holy land. The consulate is helping the families through this difficult time and offering full support.
The authorities are now investigating the cause of the crash. Meanwhile, the families continue to mourn. The Pakistani Umrah pilgrims killed will be remembered by their loved ones, while the consulate continues to support those affected.
