FIFA lifts Pakistan ban on the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), allowing the country to compete in international football again. FIFA announced this decision on March 2, 2025, after Pakistan successfully amended its football constitution.
FIFA stated, “The Bureau of the FIFA Council decided to lift the suspension imposed on the PFF on February 6, 2025.” The suspension ended after PFF Congress members unanimously approved FIFA- and AFC-validated amendments, meeting the required standards.
What Led to the Suspension?
FIFA had suspended Pakistan Football Federation when Congress members initially rejected key amendments to the federation’s constitution. These changes were necessary to ensure a transparent and fair election process within the PFF.
However, after reconsideration in a follow-up meeting on February 27, 2025, the amendments passed. This decision cleared the way for FIFA to reinstate Pakistan’s football membership.
Pakistan Can Now Compete Internationally
With FIFA lifting Pakistan’s ban, the PFF teams can now compete in international tournaments. The suspension had prevented Pakistan from entering the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. Now, the federation must quickly prepare for their upcoming match against Syria this month.
Officials Celebrate the Reinstatement
Shahid Khokhar, a PFF Normalisation Committee member, confirmed the news and expressed gratitude. He stated, “The suspension was lifted after the successful outcome of the PFF Extraordinary Congress on February 27. We thank FIFA and AFC for their support and congratulate the Pakistan football community.”
A Fresh Start for Pakistan Football
FIFA lifts Pakistan ban, bringing new hope for Pakistan’s football players and fans. With full membership rights restored, the PFF can now focus on developing the sport and ensuring a stronger future on the international stage.
