Babar Azam Equals Hashim Amla’s Record

Babar Azam has become the joint-fastest batter to reach 6,000 ODI runs. He achieved this feat in just 123 innings, matching South Africa’s Hashim Amla. This puts him ahead of India’s Virat Kohli, who took 136 innings to reach the milestone. Kane Williamson and David Warner follow, reaching 6,000 runs in 139 innings.

Fastest Batters to Reach 6,000 ODI Runs

  • Babar Azam (Pakistan) – 123 innings
  • Hashim Amla (South Africa) – 123 innings
  • Virat Kohli (India) – 136 innings
  • Kane Williamson (New Zealand) – 139 innings
  • David Warner (Australia) – 139 innings

Babar has been breaking records throughout his career. He was also the fastest to reach 5,000 ODI runs, achieving that mark in just 97 innings.

Joining the Pakistani Greats

With this achievement, Babar Azam joins an elite group of Pakistani batters. He is now the 11th Pakistani to score over 6,000 ODI runs. The legendary Inzamam-ul-Haq leads the list with 11,701 runs. Other top scorers include Mohammad Yousuf (9,554) and Saeed Anwar (8,824).

Babar’s stats continue to improve. He has already scored 19 centuries and 34 half-centuries in ODIs. He is now just one century away from equaling Saeed Anwar’s record for the most ODI hundreds by a Pakistani player.

A Test of Consistency

Babar’s journey to 6,000 ODI runs has not been easy. His form in recent ODIs has been inconsistent. He has only scored two fifties in his last seven innings. He had a chance to become the outright fastest to this milestone. However, he fell short after scoring just 23 against South Africa.

Despite these challenges, Babar reached the 6,000-run mark in style. A signature cover drive on February 14 secured the milestone during the tri-series final against New Zealand. His innings provided stability after Pakistan lost early wickets. He was eventually dismissed for 29 off 34 balls. At that stage, Pakistan was struggling at 54/3 in 11.5 overs.

Babar Azam’s latest achievement adds another chapter to his record-breaking career. Fans will be eager to see what more he can accomplish in the future.
