Islamic New Year Begins

The Islamic New Year 1447 has officially begun in Pakistan. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed the sighting of the Muharram moon. As a result, Muslims across the country have entered one of the most sacred Islamic months — Muharram.

This month is not only the start of the new Islamic year but also a time of deep religious significance. It marks a historical period remembered with reverence, reflection, and prayer.

What Is Muharram?

Muharram is one of the four sacred months in Islam. It is highly respected across the Muslim world. Muslims avoid conflict and seek spiritual reflection during this time.

Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, is especially important. It is a day of mourning and remembrance for the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA).

The Legacy of Karbala

The battle of Karbala is central to the significance of Muharram. Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), refused to surrender to a corrupt regime. Instead, he chose to stand for truth and justice.

He, along with his family and companions, was martyred. This event symbolizes courage, sacrifice, and the fight against oppression.

How Muslims Observe Muharram

Many Muslims mark Muharram with solemn gatherings and sermons. Special prayers are offered, especially on Ashura. Some participate in peaceful processions. Others simply reflect at home.

Fasting on Ashura is also a common practice. It is believed to bring spiritual reward and blessings

Lessons and Reflections

The start of a new Islamic year is a reminder to reset our intentions. It encourages believers to stay true to values like truth, justice, and patience.

By remembering the events of Karbala, Muslims renew their spiritual commitment. They seek peace, both within and in the world around them.
