Ashura 2025 Likely on July 6 as Muharram Moon Expected on June 26: SUPARCO

Ashura 2025 Likely on July 6

The Ashura 2025 date in Pakistan is expected to fall on Sunday, July 6. This estimate is based on astronomical calculations shared by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).

According to experts, the new Islamic year 1447 Hijri will begin on Friday, June 27. SUPARCO announced that the birth of the Muharram moon will occur on June 25 at 3:32 PM Pakistan Standard Time. By the evening of June 26, the moon will be nearly 28 hours and 15 minutes old—making its sighting highly likely in most areas, especially under clear skies.

SUPARCO also noted that the time between sunset and moonset in coastal regions of Pakistan will be around 75 minutes. This window is ideal for moon visibility. With these favorable conditions, many expect to see the Muharram crescent on the evening of June 26.

The Ashura 2025 date depends on the official moon sighting. Therefore, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on June 26 to confirm the sighting. Zonal committees will also gather in their respective locations. If confirmed, the first day of Muharram will be Friday, June 27, and Ashura, which falls on the 10th of Muharram, will be on Sunday, July 6.

Muharram marks the start of the Islamic calendar. It is one of the most sacred months for Muslims across the world. The 10th day, Ashura, carries deep historical and religious significance.

In preparation, provincial authorities have taken several steps. The Punjab government has already announced Section 144 across the province from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram. They also plan to ban pillion riding on the 9th and 10th of Muharram to ensure public safety.

Law enforcement agencies are tightening security measures nationwide. Mobile networks will likely be suspended near processions, gatherings, and Imambargahs during key days.

People across Pakistan now await the final confirmation of the Ashura 2025 date, which hinges on the official moon sighting later this month.
