Pakistan Boils in Historic Heatwave: Temperatures Soar to 50°C as Cities Sizzle

Pakistan heatwave 2025: The cities across Pakistan are burning with extreme heat due to heatwave. Temperatures have reached record highs, and many cities are suffering. People are staying indoors, and emergency alerts are in place.
Jacobabad and Bhakkar are the hottest so far. Both hit a scorching 49°C. Bhakkar even reached 50°C, making it the hottest place in Pakistan right now. Other cities like Sibi, Jhelum, Bahawalnagar, and Dera Ismail Khan are also burning under the sun. All have crossed 46°C.
Islamabad Nears Record High
Islamabad has also faced extreme heat. The temperature climbed to 45°C, close to its all-time high of 46.6°C, recorded in June 1994. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) says the heat will continue for a few more days.
At the same time, a wildfire broke out in the Margalla Hills. Firefighters rushed in as thick smoke filled the sky. Officials think people may have caused the fire by mistake. As a result, outdoor cooking and bonfires are now banned in green areas under Section 144.
Authorities have also placed warning signs and banners along hiking trails.
Cities in Punjab Struggle to Cope
In Punjab, many cities have reported temperatures over 45°C.
- Lahore: 46.2°C
- Sargodha: 47.8°C
- Gujranwala & Hafizabad: 47.5°C
- Multan: High temperatures plus humidity made the heat feel even worse.
Daily life has slowed down. Street vendors are closing early. Many people avoid going outside between 11 AM and 4 PM, when the sun is strongest.
Hospitals are seeing more heatstroke cases, mostly elderly people, children, and workers exposed to the sun. The government has set up special counters in hospitals. Cold water is also being distributed at public places like markets and bus stops.
PMD Issues Warnings
The PMD says the current heatwave is not normal. In many areas, temperatures are 4 to 7°C above average. The heat will likely continue until June 13, or even longer in some cities.
The Pakistan heatwave 2025 is affecting nearly every part of the country.
In Sindh,
- Jacobabad reached 49°C
- Mohenjo-Daro hit 48°C
- Larkana & Sukkur both recorded 47°C
Even Karachi felt the heat, with a temperature of 40°C and 70% humidity.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,
- Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan faced 45–46°C.
In Balochistan,
- Sibi and Turbat saw 47°C
- Quetta remained lower at 38°C
Rain in the North May Bring Relief
Some relief is possible in the north. The PMD expects light rain and storms in Islamabad, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and some areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Wind and dust storms may also hit plain regions, which could lower the heat for a short time.
Still, the Pakistan heatwave 2025 remains dangerous. Experts urge everyone to:
- Drink plenty of water
- Wear light cotton clothes
- Avoid direct sunlight
People should also take extra care of children, older family members, and anyone with health problems.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is on high alert. Hospitals have stocked emergency supplies. Officials are also keeping an eye on water levels in dry areas like Cholistan.
