Sana Mir’s ICC Hall of Fame

Former Pakistan captain Sana Mir’s ICC Hall of Fame entry marks a proud moment for the country. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced her induction on Monday. She became the first Pakistani woman cricketer to receive this honor.

This monumental achievement places her among the game’s greatest legends, including MS Dhoni, Matthew Hayden, and Sarah Taylor, who were also honored in the 2025 inductee list.

A Trailblazer for Pakistan Women’s Cricket

Sana Mir’s journey began in 2005 when she debuted for Pakistan. Over 15 years, she played 226 international matches, leading her team with grit and passion.

She captained Pakistan in two World Cups and five T20 World Cups, but her crowning glory came at the Asian Games, where she guided the team to gold medals in 2010 and 2014.

With 151 ODI wickets, she remains Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker in women’s cricket. She also smashed 1,000+ ODI runs, joining an elite group of only nine women globally to achieve this double. In 2018, she topped the ICC Women’s ODI Rankings, proving her dominance as an all-rounder.

Sana Mir’s ICC Hall of Fame recognition comes as a reward for years of dedication and excellence. Her performance inspired a generation of young girls in Pakistan to pick up a bat and ball.

Breaking Barriers On and Off the Field

Beyond her stats, Sana Mir fought for bigger causes. She advocated for mental health awareness, stood against body shaming, and supported COVID-19 relief efforts. Her leadership extended beyond the pitch—she served on the ICC Women’s Committee and recently became an ambassador for the 2024 T20 World Cup Qualifier.

“From dreaming as a little girl that one day there would even be a women’s team in our country to now standing here, inducted among the very legends I idolised long before I ever held a bat or a ball – this is a moment I couldn’t have dared to imagine. I am incredibly grateful for this honour and hope to give back to the sport in any way I can,” she said during the induction ceremony at London’s Abbey Road Studios.

Joining Cricket’s Elite

The ICC Hall of Fame class of 2024 featured seven legends:

  • MS Dhoni – The only captain to win all three ICC white-ball trophies.
  • Matthew Hayden – Australia’s destructive opener with 30 Test centuries.
  • Sarah Taylor – England’s revolutionary wicketkeeper and World Cup winner.
  • Hashim Amla & Graeme Smith – South African icons with record-breaking careers.
  • Daniel Vettori – New Zealand’s legendary all-rounder.

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi called Mir’s induction a “proud moment for the nation” and a beacon of hope for future female cricketers.
