Trump’s Kashmir Mediation Offer Gains Praise Amid India-Pakistan Ceasefire

Trump’s Kashmir mediation

US President Donald Trump’s Kashmir mediation offer is drawing praise across Pakistan after both India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire. The proposal comes after days of heightened military tension between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. Political experts, diplomats, and analysts have welcomed Trump’s statement and called it a possible step toward long-term peace in South Asia.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office issued a statement on Sunday, showing appreciation for the US president’s role. It said that the Kashmir issue remains central to peace and stability in the region. The Foreign Office stressed that any solution must follow United Nations Security Council resolutions. It also said the final settlement should respect the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

“We appreciate President Trump’s support for peace efforts,” said the FO spokesperson. He also acknowledged the role of the United States and other friendly nations in helping achieve the latest ceasefire. Pakistan views this truce as a positive step toward de-escalation and better regional ties.

Earlier, President Trump shared his thoughts on Truth Social, his social media platform. He praised both India and Pakistan for showing what he called “strength, wisdom, and fortitude” in stopping the conflict. “Millions of good and innocent people could have died!” he wrote.

Trump added, “Your legacy is greatly enhanced by your brave actions. I am proud that the USA was able to help you arrive at this historic and heroic decision.”

He also hinted at stronger economic ties with both countries. “While not even discussed, I am going to increase trade, substantially, with both of these great Nations,” he wrote. He further stated his interest in helping solve the Kashmir issue, which he called an unresolved conflict for “a thousand years.”

Trump has been widely praised for not only recognizing the core issue behind South Asia’s tensions but also offering a rare opportunity for international engagement. Pakistan responded positively to Trump’s remarks. The Foreign Office said Pakistan remains committed to working with the US and the global community. It hopes to promote peace, security, and economic cooperation across the region. Pakistan also expressed interest in strengthening trade and investment ties with the United States.

Many political analysts viewed Trump’s Kashmir mediation as a rare and bold step. Abdul Basit, former High Commissioner of Pakistan to India, said Trump deserves credit for understanding the core of the problem. “Trump should be appreciated for understanding that the root cause of Pakistan-India hostility is Jammu and Kashmir,” Basit stated. “Kashmir can win him a Nobel.”

International relations expert Dr. Huma Baqai also welcomed Trump’s comments. “Donald Trump’s tweet is a breath of fresh air. Mentioning Kashmir is validation of Pakistan’s point of view. The cherry on the cake is trade. Thank you USA,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

South Asia expert Michael Kugelman also reacted to Trump’s remarks. He noted that this message was more direct than previous ones. “Trump has posted again about India and Pakistan — and this time he says he will work with them to seek a ‘solution’ on Kashmir. Wow,” he wrote.

Veteran journalist Hamid Mir joined others in appreciating Trump’s timely message. “Thank you Donald Trump for reminding the international community about KASHMIR. Solution of this dispute will definitely bring peace in South Asia,” he posted.

Senator Sherry Rehman also highlighted the significance of the moment. She called Trump’s effort a “huge legacy win” if he succeeds in bringing both countries to the negotiating table. She added that peace in the region has remained a distant dream for one-fifth of humanity living in South Asia.

President Trump’s second post on the same day added further weight to his offer. He repeated his praise for both sides and said the US had helped in the ceasefire process. He also promised to work closely with both India and Pakistan to find a solution to the Kashmir conflict.

These developments show Pakistan’s clear desire to resolve the long-standing dispute through dialogue. The country is ready to work with India under international mediation. However, the success of Trump’s Kashmir mediation will ultimately depend on India’s willingness to engage in the process.
