Pakistan has issued a strong warning about a possible Indian cyber attack. The Cabinet Division shared an advisory with all federal departments. It warns of a phishing campaign targeting government officials.
Threat Linked to Indian Group
The advisory names the Indian hacking group “SideWinder” as the source of the threat. This group has been active for years. It has a long history of targeting Pakistani institutions. Now, they are using phishing emails to trick officials into sharing important information.
Emails Disguised as Local Sources
Some emails appear to come from Pakistan’s own cybersecurity offices. This makes them look real and harder to detect. However, they are fake. These emails aim to steal passwords, documents, and other sensitive data.
Steps to Improve Cyber Safety
The advisory urges departments to take action. Officials should:
Use advanced spam filters
Set up malware detection systems
Train staff to spot fake emails
Most importantly, workers must not click on suspicious links. Even if an email looks official, it should be checked carefully.
Training and Awareness Needed
Many cyber attacks happen because people are unaware. So, departments are told to train their staff. Everyone should learn how phishing works. Teams must stay alert and act fast if they spot anything unusual.
Need for Stronger Protection
The Cabinet Division also asked for better coordination. All departments must work together. The goal is to protect sensitive government data from foreign threats. With global tensions rising, these actions are more important than ever.
