Karachi University Pipeline Burst Triggers Water Crisis

A pipeline burst near Karachi University has created a serious water crisis, leaving many areas in the city without water. The 84-inch pipeline from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) ruptured early on Tuesday morning, flooding the university and nearby neighborhoods. This damage has caused major flooding in homes and properties.
The rupture of the pipeline sent water rushing through streets and into residential areas. As water gushed out, it flooded houses on the university grounds, including the homes of faculty members. Many items like furniture, vehicles, and other belongings were damaged. The flood-like situation forced residents to temporarily leave their homes to prevent further damage.
The pipeline burst near Karachi University has also worsened the water shortage in Karachi. The city relies on 650 million gallons of water each day, but the burst has cut off more than 250 million gallons of that supply. KWSC stated that the water supply will be reduced to only 400 million gallons per day for several days while repairs are underway. Many areas in Karachi will be left without enough water during this time.
The affected areas include Jamshed Town, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Korangi, Landhi, and others. These areas were already facing water shortages, and the burst has made the situation worse. Residents are being advised to store water in advance and use it sparingly while the repairs take place. The repair work is expected to take up to 96 hours to finish.
A KWSC spokesperson shared that emergency repair work began right after the pipeline burst near Karachi University was discovered. However, there has been frustration from residents due to slow repair responses. Water pressure in the affected pipeline has been reduced to help speed up repairs. Teams are working non-stop to fix the damage.
Despite the repair work, the damage caused by the burst is severe. Many people are still without clean water, and the longer the repairs take, the worse the crisis will become. Karachi’s water infrastructure has been under pressure for a long time. This incident highlights the need for better maintenance and upgrades to the city’s aging water systems.
The repair work is crucial to fixing the water crisis, but it may have lasting effects on Karachi’s water supply. KWSC has promised to restore service to the affected areas as soon as possible. However, it remains uncertain when the water supply will return to normal. In the meantime, residents are urged to save water and prepare for more disruptions until repairs are completed.
