Skilled Workers Abroad Boost

Skilled workers abroad are making a big impact on Pakistan’s economy. In the first three months of 2025, over 151,000 Pakistanis left for jobs in Gulf countries. Saudi Arabia received the highest number.

Their work not only supports families but also brings valuable remittances. These inflows are helping Pakistan manage its tough economic situation.

Saudi Arabia Leads in Hiring

According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), 121,970 workers went to Saudi Arabia between January and March 2025. The United Arab Emirates followed with 6,891 workers. Other Gulf countries also hired thousands:

  • Qatar: 12,989

  • Oman: 8,331

  • Bahrain: 939

These numbers show the Gulf remains a strong job market for Pakistani labor.

Workers Going Beyond Gulf Countries

Many also found jobs outside the Gulf. The UK welcomed 1,454 workers, while Turkiye hired 870. Others went to Greece, Malaysia, China, and even Japan. This shows Pakistani talent is now in demand worldwide.

In total, 172,144 workers were sent abroad in just three months.

Professions in Demand

The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment shared a breakdown:

  • 38,274 drivers

  • 3,474 technicians

  • 2,130 electricians

  • 1,479 engineers

  • 849 doctors

  • 436 teachers

This wide range of skills shows Pakistan’s workforce is becoming more diverse and competitive.

Government Plans to Train More

The Ministry for Overseas Pakistanis aims to train even more workers. In January, Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain said Pakistan will improve skills training. He stressed project management and innovation.

In 2024, Pakistan sent over 727,000 skilled workers to Europe and the Middle East. The government hopes to increase this number.

Record-Breaking Remittances in 2025

In March 2025, Pakistan received $4.1 billion in remittances. Saudi Arabia was the top source. These funds are vital. They help reduce unemployment and support the economy.

Pakistan expects 3% growth this year, partly due to these overseas earnings.
