PCB Begins Search for New Head Coach as Aaqib Javed Eyes New Role

PCB’s new head coach

The PCB’s new head coach hiring process has officially started. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) posted a new job ad on Saturday. They are looking for someone with Level III coaching certification. The candidate should also have at least ten years of coaching experience at the national or domestic level.

This step comes after a major change. Interim head coach Aaqib Javed has shown interest in a different role. He no longer wants to continue as head coach. Instead, he is aiming for the position of Director of the High-Performance Centre. PCB has also advertised this job. It became available after Nadeem Khan stepped down.

Aaqib Javed took over as interim white-ball head coach in November last year. He replaced Gary Kirsten, who left before Pakistan’s Australia tour. Later, the PCB made Javed the interim coach for all formats. This happened after Jason Gillespie left due to disagreements with PCB officials.

Originally, Javed’s role was supposed to end after the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. However, the board extended his contract for Pakistan’s white-ball tour of New Zealand. That tour ended earlier this month. Now the PCB has decided not to renew his term.

Even though he is leaving the head coach role, Javed still wants to work in Pakistan cricket. His interest in the High-Performance Centre job shows that. PCB is facing a lack of experienced local coaches. Because of this, they are also thinking about hiring a foreign coach.

The PCB’s new head coach might be someone from outside Pakistan. In the past, PCB brought in famous international names. This time, insiders believe they may choose someone who fits the team’s current needs instead of chasing big names.

Meanwhile, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi visited the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground. He praised the women’s national team for their great run in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier. Pakistan remained unbeaten. They won five matches in a row. The team ended the tournament with a seven-wicket win against Bangladesh.

Naqvi also made a clear statement. “Pakistan will not travel to India as this formula has already been agreed upon,” he said. He referred to the Fusion Formula, which supports using neutral venues for India-Pakistan matches. According to him, the final decision will be with the host country.

The women’s team, led by Fatima Sana, played well as a unit. They also beat Thailand by 87 runs during the qualifiers. Naqvi promised rewards for the team. He said their success came from their strong unity.

The PCB’s new head coach decision will be important. With upcoming events like the Champions Trophy 2025 and rising women’s cricket, the new coach will play a big role. The board is working to make the right choice for the future of Pakistan cricket.
