PM Orders Mandatory IT Education from Grade 6 Onwards

IT education from Grade 6 will now be mandatory in Pakistan. PM Shehbaz Sharif has given clear instructions to make this happen. This step is meant to help students learn tech skills early. It will also prepare them for jobs in the growing digital economy.
The Prime Minister shared this plan in a top-level meeting about the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication. “The inclusion of IT in school curricula is vital to preparing our future generations for the demands of the digital economy,” said the Prime Minister. He further added that it will also help them compete globally. The goal is to boost the IT sector and increase the country’s IT exports by building a skilled workforce.
PM Shehbaz said that the same rules must apply across the country. Every province must make sure schools, colleges, and universities offer quality IT education. A united approach will help give all students the same digital start.
He also mentioned that special areas need special focus. This includes regions like Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Balochistan. The PM said that this initiative should not leave any region behind. He wants equal access to IT education from Grade 6 in every part of the country.
To make this happen, the government is working with Huawei, a global tech company. Together, they will start IT training programs at top universities. These include NUST, COMSATS, and the International Islamic University Islamabad. Students will learn about Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Big Data, and Cybersecurity. These courses will give them the skills they need in the digital world.
The government has already started projects. One of them is the School Broadband Connectivity Project. It is helping schools in Islamabad get better internet. In the 2024-2025 budget year, more than 49,000 people will get advanced IT training. Around 600,000 people will also get basic IT training.
Huawei will help train 146,000 students. They will also help upgrade 1,300 labs all over Pakistan. This will improve IT education in schools, colleges, and universities. It will be very helpful, especially in far-off areas.
The government is serious about improving IT education in Pakistan. It is an investment in the country’s youth. Teaching IT education from Grade 6 will help students get ready for a tech-based future.
PM Shehbaz Sharif’s action is a big step. He wants students to be more than just users of technology. He wants them to create it too. This plan will help make Pakistan stronger in the digital world.
Soon, schools will start using this new policy. Teachers will add IT education from Grade 6 to their lessons. Parents and students should expect major changes in how IT is taught. The focus will be on making sure the learning is good and easy for everyone to access.
