The Pakistan weather alert has been issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Severe weather is expected to continue in many parts of the country. There will be heavy rainfall, strong windstorms, thunderstorms, and hailstorms on April 18 and 19.
The National Emergencies Operations Center (NEOC) said that the bad weather will hit northern and central Punjab. Cities like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Jhelum, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Jhang, Khushab, Mianwali, Lahore, Narowal, Sahiwal, Sargodha, and Sheikhupura are under threat.
These weather conditions may damage houses, roads, crops, and power lines. Dust and hailstorms can break windows, knock down trees, and harm solar panels. On Wednesday, a hailstorm in Islamabad broke vehicle windows and damaged rooftops. Authorities fear more such incidents may happen this weekend.
NDMA said that rescue teams are on high alert. “Rescue 1122 and other agencies are prepared with machinery and trained staff.” People are told to avoid travel if it’s not necessary. They should use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert app to stay updated.
Along with storms in the north, there is also a strong warning about heat in the south. A heatwave is expected from April to June. Temperatures may go over 45°C in areas like Karachi, Larkana, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Matiari, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan.
The high heat may start wildfires. This risk is higher in mountainous areas such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan. This heatwave might also cause crop failures. Less rain will mean less water for crops. Farmers could face food and water shortages.
This Pakistan weather alert also highlights the risk to human life. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that nine people have died due to recent storms in Punjab. Two of them were struck by lightning in Layyah and Kot Addu. Homes and livestock were also affected.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said, “Financial help will be given to affected families.” He also added, “Control rooms and district response centers are working round the clock.” All government teams have been asked to be ready for any emergency.
People are advised to follow only official updates. Those in landslide-prone areas should stay alert and follow safety advice. If you are driving, check weather reports before leaving. Avoid routes with poor visibility or storm risk.
The NDMA reminded citizens that verified updates and safety tips can save lives.
