Pakistan Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms, and Snowfall Expected Next Week

The Pakistan weather forecast February 2025 warns of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall across the country. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert. A strong westerly system will enter western Pakistan on February 24 (evening) and spread to upper areas by February 25. It will stay active in northern regions until March 2.
Heavy Snowfall and Thunderstorms in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir
Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir will face heavy snowfall, rain, and thunderstorms from February 25 to March 2.
Affected areas:
- Gilgit-Baltistan: Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Guanche, and Shigar.
- Kashmir: Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.
Severe Weather in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Heavy rain and snowfall will hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) from February 24 (night) to March 1.
Affected districts:
- Northern KP: Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, and Abbottabad.
- Central & Southern KP: Haripur, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan.
Rain and Snowfall in Punjab and Islamabad
Murree and Galliyat will get moderate to heavy snowfall from February 25 to March 1. Other areas will see rain, wind, and thunderstorms.
Affected areas:
- Northern Punjab: Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum.
- Central Punjab: Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, and Toba Tek Singh.
- Southern Punjab: Jhang, Bhakkar, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Taunsa Sharif, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Okara, Bahawalnagar, and Bahawalpur.
Balochistan Braces for Rain and Snow
From February 24 (evening) to February 26, Balochistan will see rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall over the hills.
Affected areas:
- Western & Central Balochistan: Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Mastung, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, and Qilla Saifullah.
- Eastern Balochistan: Chagai, Nushki, Kalat, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Harnai, Zhob, and Musakhel.
Light Rain in Sindh
Parts of Sindh will receive light rain and thunderstorms on February 25 and 26.
Affected areas:
Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, and Sukkur.
Travel Warnings and Safety Alerts
- Heavy snowfall may cause road closures in Murree, Galliyat, Naran, Kaghan, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, and Neelum Valley. Roads will be slippery, increasing travel risks.
- Flash floods may hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir between February 25 and March 1.
- Landslides may occur in mountainous areas, making travel dangerous.
PMD advises tourists to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has taken safety measures to prevent major disruptions.
Despite travel risks, the rain will benefit crops in rain-fed areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Farmers can expect better soil moisture for upcoming harvests.
